Submitting to the Authorities

In Romans 13 Paul writes about Christians submitting to the authorities:

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

As the Presidency is rapidly becoming up for grabs, it’s important for us as believers to participate in our government and cast our vote and be vehicles in God’s decision of who will be next to lead the nation that He has placed us in. It’s safe to deduce from this passage in Romans that not only the man who runs our government is established by God but that our system of government has been as well. That being the case, take advantage of your right to vote. Yes, God is in control, but he gave you the right to vote!

If you’re like me and don’t watch much TV or if you’re like me and were working the night of one of the debates, you need a place to hear from the candidates. As the saying goes, if it’s not on YouTube it never happened. I’m here to tell you that yes, the debates happened. YouTube has done a wonderful job of breaking the debates up into individual videos for each question. I don’t know if YouTube cut out certain candidates’ answers or if not every candidate got to answer every question. You’ll see what I mean when you watch the videos. If you haven’t gotten a chance to hear from them yet, check out the links below. Be informed!
