Take Two, Take 2

I’m in a yo-yo video…oh yeah, so is Augie. It was his first time editing video, so comment on his video tell him he did a great job editing. Cuz he did. Feel free to comment on his dance skills too. 1:00 and 1:09 are what I’ve always called “the Augie dance”, a personal favorite of mine. Enjoy.

Friday Nights.

January 19, 2008

Friday nights are pretty standard now. Making coffee for every kind of person you could imagine at Dutch Bros. from 6-1:30ish and then coming home wide awake. It’s 3:40 am and I’m still far from sleepy. Exhausted, yet far from sleepy. I wouldn’t trade my job, don’t get me wrong, but I think it may be time to work on some regular sleeping hours. Somehow. Any tricks that help you guys sleep? My sleepy music mix isn’t working like it used to.

Who do you pray to?

January 17, 2008

It’s a simple question right? Here’s the reason I ask. As I read through the Bible, particularly through the Old Testament, it seems that sometimes my focus or imagination shifts and I don’t fully grasp who I’m praying to. Almost as if I separate God of the Old Testament from God of the New Testament and then again view Him differently as the God that I get to talk to on a regular basis.

Only in reality, I pray to the same God that created everything. The same God who used His might to flood the entire Earth. The same God that called out to Abraham just in time to spare Isaac. The same God who continued to not only issue prophecy throughout Scripture, but who sovereignly brings them to fulfillment each and every time. The same God who raised up kings for His purpose and then took everything away when they opposed Him. I pray to the gracious and merciful God that conquered death itself for those whom he loves.

That same God is the one that has been made accessible to me by Jesus Christ who, you guessed it, is that same God as well. So now that we’ve established the grandeur and might of this God who we as insignificant, wretched beings hope to receive some attention from, let’s look at Hebrews 4:14-16:

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Because of God’s marvelous plan that involved His Son coming to Earth as a man, when we approach the throne in prayer for relief, Jesus knows what we’re going through. Imagine if He sent His Son full grown and sacrificed Him on the spot. In what way would we have someone who we can approach in prayer and receive mercy and grace? We’re able to approach Christ and receive mercy because He was there, He knows temptation, but he never caved. Knowing that, why would you go anywhere else in your darkest hour? Why would you hesitate to run into the arms of the one man who ever got it right.

The God who flexed his arms in judgment throughout the Old Testament. The God who is a meek and gentle shepherd and laid down His life to rescue the ones he loves in the New Testament. They are the same, immutable, triune God.

Pray to Him.

So I’ve got this buddy, Paul. He writes a bi-weekly column and somehow finds a way to be colloquially eloquent time after time. Sounds like an oxymoron right? Possibly. On top of all that, he ends up talking about Jesus in some way or another most of the time. It’s a great read. So read it!
